The best real-time AI meeting assistants in 2026

Witifier team4 min read

"AI meeting assistant" now covers at least three different kinds of product. Some take notes. Some summarise after the fact. A smaller group helps you during the conversation, with something to say right now. Mixing them up is how people end up paying for the wrong tool. Here is how the field looks in October 2026.

Three categories, three jobs

  • Live copilots suggest what to say while you are talking. Witifier, Cluely, Final Round AI, LockedIn AI.
  • Note-takers capture the meeting and give you a summary, action items and search. Otter, Fireflies, Granola.
  • Built-in platform AI lives inside the meeting tool you already pay for. Microsoft Copilot in Teams, Gemini in Google Meet, Zoom AI Companion.

Most people need one from the second or third group. If you also want help in the moment, add one from the first.

The live copilots

Witifier

A Chrome extension that reads the live captions in Meet, Teams, Zoom (browser) and YouTube and shows color-coded cards: real facts, wit, humor, irony, questions, proverbs and running gags that call back to earlier moments. Eight modes (Podcast/panel, Work meeting, Sales, Interview, Negotiation, Networking, Class/talk, Dating) change the mix. Notes after the call include a summary, decisions, tasks, best moments and a follow-up email. Witifier Web costs €19/month for 6 hours after 5 free minutes; Witifier App is free and uses your own Claude Pro or Max subscription. Best for people who want to sound sharp, not just correct.

Cluely

A desktop app for Windows and Mac that listens to system audio, can read your screen and answers on demand with a hotkey. Works across Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex and Slack. Strongest when you need help in any app or about what is on screen. We compare it with Witifier in detail in Cluely vs Witifier.

Final Round AI and LockedIn AI

Both are focused on job interviews: suggested answers, practice and coaching around the interview itself. At the time of writing, Final Round AI is around $150/month and LockedIn AI around $50–70/month. If interviews are the only thing you need, they are specialised; if you also have sales calls, podcasts or regular meetings, a general copilot with an interview mode may be better value. See our guide to AI help in interviews.

The note-takers

Otter, Fireflies and Granola are mainly about what happens around the meeting: transcripts, summaries, action items, searching past calls. Some of them add a bot to the call, some work from your device. They are excellent at memory and terrible at helping you think of a good reply in two seconds, because that is not what they are for.

The built-in AI

Microsoft Copilot in Teams, Gemini in Google Meet and Zoom AI Companion are convenient: already licensed by many companies, already inside the tool. They are best at summaries, catch-ups ("what did I miss?") and answering questions about the meeting. They do not try to whisper a witty line or a sharp fact while you talk.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether you need help in the moment. If you mainly forget what was agreed, a note-taker or the built-in AI is enough.
  2. Check where your calls happen. Browser-based Meet, Teams or Zoom? An extension works. Native desktop apps? You need something that reads system audio or OS captions.
  3. Think about the kind of conversation. An interview needs crisp, honest answers. A podcast needs facts and humor. A sales call needs questions and objection handling. One tone does not fit all.
  4. Look at how it treats the other people. Does a bot join? Does the guest list change? Can you tell people you use it without embarrassment?
  5. Try before you pay. Most tools have a free tier or trial. One real call tells you more than any review, including this one.

Our take

There is no single best tool, only the best tool for a job. Keep your note-taker or your platform's AI for memory. If you want someone in your ear who knows the right fact and the right moment for a joke, that is what we built Witifier for.
